Your houseplants are a source of color, comfort and maybe even good health. That’s why it can be so disheartening to see that your plants have started to grow what looks like mold. Here at Mold Masters, we like to educate our customers so they’re better informed and better armed when it comes to mold removal services. Learn how your plants can kick off the growth of mold in your home.
Where It All Starts
In most cases, it’s the soil that acts as the jumping off point as a source of mold, mainly because of the moisture soil retains. There are also times when you might notice that mold has started to grow directly on your houseplants. Thankfully, you don’t have to immediately throw away plants to save your home, health or any other plants you have.
What You Can Do
One of the first things you’ll want to do is change the soil if the mold has limited its growth there. It’s also a good idea to repot plants once you bring them home from the store in case the store’s soil already has mold growing in it. You also want to refrain from having soil that’s constantly moist, which acts as a breeding ground for mold as well as the need for mold testing. Instead, only water your plant when it’s dry. Always check the top of the soil to make sure it’s dry before you give your plants a drink.
Sunlight is not only good for the growth of your plant, it’s a good way to help dry out soil to prevent the growth of mold. Additionally, it’s a good idea to provide your plant with proper air circulation every now and then to control moisture for those times when there’s not a lot of sun out.
