To help the air in your home remain as clean and healthy as possible, review more ways to improve it naturally. Your Los Angeles mold inspectors suggest the following tips so everyone in your home breathes deeply and easily.

Invest in a Quality Vacuum

A good vacuum, such as one with a HEPA filter, helps maintain healthy indoor air significantly. Vacuuming regularly with a quality vacuum removes more contaminants from your carpets, rugs, wooden floors, upholstery, and furniture. Vacuum at least once a week to help maintain the indoor air in your home. If you have children or pets, vacuuming twice or more a week might be necessary.

It is also a good idea to implement a ‘no shoes’ policy in your home, since footwear tracks in dirt, dust, grime, and other contaminants. Everyone in your house should wear slippers that are exclusively for indoor use.

Research Furniture Before You Buy

Many furniture pieces are made with toxic glues and formaldehyde. Rather than allowing these toxins to get released in your home, research new furniture before you buy. Look for those made with natural glues and “low VOC’ labels. ‘VOC’ refers to ‘volatile organic compounds’ that can cause health issues such as dizziness, headaches, and even cancer.

You can also allow furniture to off-gas in your garage or another applicable area for a few weeks before arranging the pieces in your home.

Use Better Paint

Paints labeled ‘zero VOC’ or ‘low VOC’ are ideal since they won’t release harmful compounds into the air. Keep windows open when you paint to prevent breathing the fumes, especially if you aren’t using zero or low VOC paint.

Aerosol paints and sprays should also be avoided due to the harmful chemicals they release into the air.

Work With Salt Lamps and Bamboo Charcoal

Salt lamps made from Himalayan salt release negative ions into the air, which helps clean it. They also make excellent night lights because unlike blue and fluorescent lights, they do not affect sleep hormones. Bamboo charcoal is another helpful air cleaner that absorbs toxic chemicals and binds them. Such products also remove odors from the air.
